How to Donate Books
Thank you for donating to Friends of Alameda Free Library. Your donation is critical to our ongoing used book sale operations.
Donations are by appointment only
Please read the following guidelines carefully prior to contacting us to schedule a donation.
Donations are accepted year-round, but there may be holidays or times when we are temporarily unable to accept donations due to the high volume of books received from our generous donors. Please check this page periodically for updates.
Sunday, July 5 - day after the July 4th holiday
Sunday, September 6 - Labor Day weekend
Sunday, October 18 - Sunday post-Alameda Used Book Sales
Sunday, November 29 - Thanksgiving weekend
Sunday, December 20 - Holiday break
Sunday, December 27 - Holiday break
Your donations are necessary and appreciated and help to raise funds for the Alameda Free Library. We prefer that you pack your donations in boxes or bags that you do not need returned.
Donations are accepted on most Sundays. Start your appointment request here:
What Sells Best
- Children's books, especially board and picture books
- Graphic novels
- Music CDs, especially folk, soul, R&B, Blues and rock
What We Cannot Accept
- Books that are in less than very good condition, defined as:
- Damaged by water, coffee or mold
- Poor binding
- Bent or misshapen
- With highlighting, underlining, or marginalia
- Cassette tapes
- Computer books, games, etc.
- Encyclopedias
- Magazines
- Reference books, or medical books that are more than 10 years old
- Textbooks
- VHS tapes
Please do not leave your donations at the Library without an appointment. The Library does not have the staff to support the collection or sorting of donations.
